Language - EVERYONE PLEASE REPLY!

Postby Mangosaurus » 28 Mar 2008, 07:22

Had a similar topic on The Spot after a while, but basically where does your tolerance of swear words etc lie? Are you like me and crb and prefer to have no swear words at all? Do you want to be able to say every swear word under the sun (well, unfortunately i'm not gonna allow that anyway, but thats not the point ;)).

The f-word is always going to stay censored, but lately i've been censoring words like s-h-i-t etc. Is that going too far?

I kinda hate swearing in real life (still do it, but i don't like it when i do) so would prefer that not-so-obvious/similar alternatives were used here really (if they are even necessary in the first place) - i like to keep this place nice and tidy like it has been for years.

Anywho, please voice your opinion as soon as you have read this, otherwise i won't know!

I will respond But I wont voice my opinion Andy on the side of you have heard me in real life and on here or SSE
but...
As Mat said on SSE or to me : ITS GOOD WHEN ALL OTHER WORDS CANT EXPRESS THE SAME FEELING OR YOU CANT FIND ANOTHER WORD TO SURFICE

Or as Billy Connolly said : SOME PEOPLE CAN SWEAR WELL I CAN SWEAR EXTREMELY WELL

thats my thoughts but remember I have no opinion based on I fall under the later of the two comments

Swearing is pretty dumb...

we don't need it on here.

Sidenote:

When I came in here to read what it said, I was expecting something to do with actual different languages... haha

Like can we post stuff that no-body (but maybe somebody?) would understand if it was not in English.

Coz I'm so silly.

And the world is so beautiful tonight... A world with Faith and Fyre..

What win I if I gain that which I seek? A dream, a breath, a froth of fleeting momentary joy? Who buys a minutes mirth to wail or weep,a day a year or ten or more? For one sweet grape, whom doth the vine destroy?

Not all scars show, not all wounds heal
Sometimes you can't always see
The pain someone feels

"Swear" words or "Bad" words do not bother me as long as they're not derogatory terms being said in a derogatory manner. One small example would be...
"Ryan, quit being gay." Ryan isn't homosexual. Truth be told, I really don't care what a person's sexual orientation is... it's not that I'm tolerant or accepting, I just don't care... which I guess makes me accepting in some weird way. But when I say this it usually means "Stop doing what you're doing."

If you want more examples of this I'll need permission from MM to post it, or I'll pm it to you if you want. After all, these are his forums.

However, I understand that for every language there are really two languages. The personal language, and professional language. The personal language is everything and is filled with improper grammar. Professional language has a lot of restrictions, I think of it as business language. For the most part I use personal language here.
